The Better Business Bureau is celebrating 100 years Thursday.

The Better Business Bureau serving Central East Texas will host The BBB Centennial Celebration and Awards Ceremony from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at The Arbor, 2215 Roy Road. The event will include a silent auction, dinner, program and awards ceremony.

BBB Awards of Excellence will be presented to two companies that exemplify ethical behavior and display integrity in all aspects of their operations -- toward their employees, vendors, customers and within their community.

"The mission of the awards program is to promote both the importance of ethical business practices and the willingness and efforts made by outstanding businesses to ensure our marketplace remains fair and honorable to everyone," BBB President/CEO Mechele Agbayani Mills said in a statement. "Today more than ever it's necessary that we spotlight and celebrate companies in our region who operate with integrity in all aspects of their operations."

Twenty companies were nominated for the 2012 awards. Winners, chosen by an independent panel of judges, will be announced at the event.

The award finalists for companies with more than 25 employees include: Vascular Specialists; Jennings Scrap and Salvage Company; Joe Tex Inc.; Rudd Services; Strategic Fulfillment Group and Traditions Restaurant.

The finalists for companies with 25 employees or fewer include: Culinary Crossroads; Travel Masters and United Heritage Credit Union.

Interactive entertainer/comedian Adam Christing will speak at the celebration.

He has been ranked among the top five after-dinner speakers in America and has performed for more than 3,000 audiences in North America. He mixes humor, leadership and creative communication and has a knack for "getting everybody laughing."

Ms. Mills said about 250 people are expected to attend the event.

Sponsors include Tyler Junior College and TJC West Campus; Southside Bank; Hibbs, Hallmark & Company and The Genecov Group. For more information, call Melissa Isham at 903-581-5888 ext. 109, or misham@easttexasbbb.org.
