Quilt-A-Thon Set Feb 11.
The Lutheran Quilters will hold their second annual Quilt-A-Thon from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 11 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 4900 Kinsey Drive in Tyler. This year's event is in honor of Liz Troxell and Carol Pattings.
The group began in 2008 with 15 quilters who were dedicated to making a difference by donating hand-made quilts to Lutheran World Relief and local organizations in the Tyler area. Mary Bymers started the mission, and it has grown every year since.
Last year's Quilt-A-Thon recipients included the Tyler Fire Department, Shriners Hospital and Lutheran World Relief.
With double the quilters this year, the event will benefit “Refuge of Light,” a local nonprofit that rescues girls from sex-trafficking.
In addition to helping local organizations, the Lutheran Quilters present their handmade gifts to the church's graduating seniors. The group gathers every Tuesday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
