Free Cat Spay, Neutering Offered Feb. 24
Low-cost spay and neuter procedures for cats are available on Feb. 24 as part of an ongoing effort to prevent unwanted spring kittens, but owners must pre-register to take advantage of the opportunity.
The project, “Beat the Heat,” is offered by the Kaufman County Animal Awareness Project in cooperation with PetSmart Charities.

“Many people don’t know that female cats can have as many as three litters a year, and kittens can breed as young as 4 months old,” project president Bonnie Hill said. “It’s our goal to bring female cats in before they go into heat and become pregnant. Our ‘Beat the Heat’ promotion is a fun way to educate the community and prevent unwanted litters.”
Rates are $20 per animal which include a rabies vaccination, according to a statement released in advance of the event.
This special rate is less than the organization’s normal low-cost price and is available to all residents in Tyler, Ms. Hill said.
Participants must mention the “Beat the Heat” promotion when they schedule their appointment.
Organizers said spaying and neutering procedures are safe for kittens as young as 8 to 10 weeks of age.
