TJC’s Annual Trip To Turkey Still Accepting Reservations
It’s time for Tyler Junior College’s annual trip to Turkey and reservations still are being accepted.

The 10-day travel-study tour, lead by TJC professor Dr. Manoucher Khosrowshahi, is planned for March 9 to 18.

The trip provides a Biblical and archeological tour of Asia Minor and is designed to enrich the American public’s knowledge of early Christianity, archeology, Turkey and the Middle East, according to a prepared statement from the college.

The tour stops will include Istanbul, Konya, Kusadasi, Aphrodisia, Hierapolis, the Mediterranean Sea, Bosphorus, Canakkale, Dardanelles, Ephesus and Troy.

Bridging Europe and Asia, Turkey has a rich historical legacy, including such great civilizations as the Hittites, the Greeks, the Romans, the Byzantines and the Ottoman Turks, the statement reads.

The country’s vast archeological parks, some of the most impressive in the world, open windows to ancient worlds in Ephesus, Pergamon, Sardis, Aphrodisias and Troy.

Turkey can be a favorite destination for Christians who wish to explore the history of Christianity such as the missionary journeys of Paul and other Apostles; the great Church Councils of the fourth through sixth centuries; and the Byzantine-era communities including the exotic region of Cappadocia.

Because of its location as a crossroads of civilizations, Turkish cuisine is considered one of the best in the Mediterranean and is always a pleasant surprise for visitors, Khosrowshahi said, according to the statement. About 18 million visitors toured Turkey last year, according to the statement.

The TJC tour costs $1,499 for the land portion plus the cost of international and domestic airfare. The fee will pay for accommodations in four-star hotels with a double-occupancy room; ground transportation; entrance fees; two meals per day; professional and English-speaking tour guides; and all taxes, tips and fees. Students can travel with a $150 reduced cost of $1,349 plus the cost of airfare.

Because of space limitations, enrollment for the tour is on a first-come, first-served basis. The tour is open to the public. However, TJC students may enroll in a special government course to receive three credit hours.
