Voluntary annexation proceedings are planned to gather public sentiment for bringing The University of Texas at Tyler Health Science Center into the city limits.

Public hearings must take place before the facility will be moved into the city, the Tyler City Council decided Wednesday.

The first hearing is planned for 9 a.m. Feb. 22 in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 212 N. Bonner Ave.; the second, at 9 a.m., a special called meeting on March 7.

The service plan will be available for review in the Planning and Zoning Department prior to the first public hearing.

Final consideration is set for 9 a.m. March 28 when the council meets in regular session.

The proposed annexation area consists of about 593 acres at northwest intersection of U.S. Highway 271 and Texas Highway 155.
