Meteor Shower Lights Up Sky From Houston To Oklahoma City
The Smith County Sheriff's Office confirmed they received numerous reports of a bright object in the sky.

Dispatchers said that about an hour ago, reports started coming in about a bright object with flames in the Noonday area. No debris or fires have been reported, dispatchers said.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford said reports of the object have been confirmed from Oklahoma City to Houston.

The object, believed to be either a meteor or "space junk," traveled southeast from a northwestern direction, he said, which is typical of meteors.

"We know it was not an airplane," he said.

No reports of falling debris have been recorded, he said.

Lunsford said witnesses have reported fire and, in some cases, a "loud boom" that accompanied the sight.
