Outgoing Girl Needs New Home
Shakyra enjoys a good challenge. That's why she didn't shy away from the opportunity to learn how to decorate a cake. “I've seen it on TV and it doesn't look easy. This will be my first”
With help from a cake artist at Chez Bazan in Tyler, this 11-year-old quickly learned a new skill. “I just can't wait to tell my friends. This is just going to be too fun.”
Shakyra is outgoing and very social. She enjoys being around people. “All my friends say that I'm the funniest girl. I can be funny and kind of crazy at the same time, so it's kind of funny,” she says.

This sixth-grader does well in school. “I just got my report card and I got A's and B's, so I'm happy.”
This young girl also enjoys sports and playing in the band. “I started playing tuba and then in the fifth grade I changed to the baritone, so that was really cool.”
Despite spending seven years in foster care, Shakyra keeps a positive attitude. “I would say it's pretty fun to meet different people, so I'm o.k. with it as long as I get to see my brother sometimes.”
But moving a lot is not easy for any child. “When you switch schools you have to get connected to new friends and then you leave them, and that's sad,” said Shakyra.

She's looking forward to starting over and being adopted. “You don't have to keep moving. You can just stop there and stay there.”
I asked her, “What do you think you would bring to a family?” She quickly responded with a big smile, “Happiness!”

This young lady is very caring and constantly striving to become a better person, and she knows a loving family is key to her success. “I want them to know I'm hard working and I can be lovable and I'm a nice person. I'm just a nice person.”
Standing back admiring her first decorated cake she says, “It's beautiful!”
