The wife of a former Dallas minister has died in Tyler after being unresponsive for 20 years following an attack.
Tyler Memorial Funeral Home officials have confirmed to the Tyler Morning Telegraph they have received the body of Peggy Railey.
Details surrounding her death are sketchy, but funeral home personnel say they received the woman's body over night.
Mrs. Railey never recovered from April 1987 savage attack at her Lake Highlands home and remained in what doctors call a vegetative state.
She had been taken care of in a Tyler nursing home for the past 20 years.
Her husband, Dallas First United Methodist Minister Walker Railey had been a suspect in the crime and was tried, but not convicted of her attempted murder.
The crime, which gained national attention, was never solved.
