Symposium To Help Parents Deal With Childhood Anxiety Set
Parent Services Center will present When Children Worry, a symposium from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 24 in The University of Texas at Tyler's Muntz Library.
Parents and caretakers will receive information to help children and teenagers cope with anxiety.
Anxiety disorders affect 13-18 percent of children and teens of all cultures and socio-economic groups in the United States, said Suzanne Brians, symposium chairperson. Research shows that untreated children with anxiety disorders are at a higher risk to perform poorly in school, miss out on important social experiences, and have the potential for a lifetime of distress.
Shelley Judd, PSC s executive director, will be the moderator. Panelists and their topics include: Symptoms and Causes of Anxiety by Ron Roberts, licensed counselor; Diagnosis and Treatments by Dr. Donald R. Fulsom, child and adolescent and adult psychiatrist; and ISD Resources by Leigh Anne Barber, Whitehouse elementary counselor.
Registration costs $10 before Sept. 16 and $15 after. Professionals will receive continuing education credits.
