By KENNETH DEAN Staff Writer Kay Lee Foster's dream to meet Texas Ranger third baseman Michael Young was realized Saturday at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

“I had no idea I was going to meet him,” Ms. Foster, 28, said Monday afternoon.

Ms. Foster expressed her desire to meet Young and talked about her dedication to the Texas Rangers during several interviews with the Tyler Morning Telegraph over three weeks.

She allowed the newspaper to follow her as she went through the process of having prosthetic eyes made for her and then placed through a grant from East Texas Lighthouse for the Blind.

“I found out I was going to the game earlier in the week, but I didn't know I was going to meet Michael Young,” she said.

Ms. Foster, her aunt and uncle, were guests of the baseball team Saturday and Young took several minutes to meet with her and sign memorabilia, including baseballs and shirts.

“I didn't know what to say to him. I was in shock. He finally asked me ‘You don't have anything to say,'” she said. “I told him, Michael I just don't know what to say.”

Ms. Foster said she later asked him, “Are you playing third base today?”

The seats the family was given were right above third base and Ms. Foster listened to the crowd and to the game from the stands.

“It was great. I didn't even care that we lost to the (Los Angeles) Angels,” she said.

To make the day even more exciting, Ms. Foster said a woman who witnessed the family being given the royal treatment gave her aunt $100.

“I don't know who she was. She just handed my aunt a $100 and said it was for some spending money. The whole day was crazy,” she said laughing.

Catching her breath for a second, Ms. Foster paused and then said “I can't believe it, but I got to meet Michael Young.”
