Whitehouse Movie Night Showing ‘Megamind’

Families have an opportunity for free entertainment this weekend.

The Whitehouse Parks and Recreation Commission will hold a movie in the park event Saturday night at the City Park on East Main Street.

Commission Chairman Don Branam said the movie “Megamind” will be shown “as soon as it gets dark,” which likely will be about 8:45 p.m.

He said organizers believe it will be a family movie that adults and children can enjoy together.

In addition to the movie, a youth group will have popcorn and drinks available for donations.

Maria Davenport, a Parks and Recreation board member, said the commission decided to do a movie in the park event after discussing possibilities for the city park.

“As a group, we wanted to see how best we could utilize our park for our citizens and our community,” Branam said. “Other cities have done this, and Whitehouse has done this (in the past).”

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs.

Ms. Davenport said she doesn’t know how many to expect, but she is anxious to see how the movie in the park turns out. The goal, she said, is for it to become a monthly event.
