Ouachita Baptist Annihilates Texas College, 70-0
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- Ouachita Baptist scored four different ways in the first quarter and poured on the points all night in a 70-0 shellacking of Texas College on Thursday night.
The Tigers opened their season in similar fashion to last, when they defeated the Steers 52-6 in Tyler.
TC, playing its second game, backtracked from last week's 55-point loss to Belhaven (Miss.).
The Steers started strong, holding on their first two defensive series before special teams letdowns turned the tide. TC punted eight times in the first half alone for an average of 19.2 yards.
OBU (1-0) blocked one punt before A.J. Williams returned one of several shanks 55 yards for the game's first score.
Eli Cranor passed for three TDs by halftime, including a pair to Brett Reece.
Troy Shoate returned two interceptions for scores, while Daniel McGee scored his first of two TDs on a 6-yard run in the second quarter to help the Tigers take a 49-0 lead by intermission.
Casey Cooper stepped in for Cranor in the second half and accounted for two scores - one on a bootleg run, and another a TD pass to Graham Cole.
McGee capped the scoring with a 16-yard run late in the fourth.
In the first half, TC moved the chain just three times and gained 37 total yards -- minus-30 rushing. The Steers completed six of 21 passes with two costly interceptions through 30 minutes.
OBU rushed for 29 yards in the first half as the Tigers' passing game struck for three scores, their defense two and special teams the other.
Cranor completing 11 of 16 passes for 173 yards before retiring to the sideline for the second half.
TC (0-2) returns to Saturday night action at 7 p.m. on Sept. 11 versus McMurry in Abilene.
