Encouragement FM stations, 89.5 KVNE and 91.3 KGLY, are collecting "Cell Phones for Soldiers" today through Sept. 10.
"This is just a way to give the community a chance to help our soldiers," Leah Coombs, director of Community Outreach and Donor Relations for Encouragement FM, said. "I think people really have a heart for our military."
Each cell phone collected will be recycled to provide a one-hour calling card to a soldier overseas.
"You can help our soldiers by just donating an old cell phone we all have around the house," Ms. Coombs said.
Last year, the stations collected about 250 phones. This year, they hope to collect 300 or more, Ms. Coombs said.
Residents can drop off their phones at USA Shipping, The Scroll Christian Bookstore, Lifeway Stores in Tyler and Longview, Chick-fil-A in Tyler and Longview, Tyler Consignment Warehouse, The Andrew's Center, McCann Insurance Agency in Palestine, Mardel Christian and Education, Walgreen's in Henderson, Joe's Italian Grill or the KVNE/KGLY studios.
