Brook Hill Takes 27-20 Win
BULLARD -- The host team for the three-day Austin Bank-DeHaven Eye Clinic Brook Hill Football Classic on Saturday night wrapped up the inaugural event with a 27-20 win over a tough Fort Worth Lake Worth team.

The Bullfrogs posted an undefeated district ledger in District 7-3A action last year to finish with an 8-4 playoff season.

The Guard took only two plays for Brook Hill's dynamic duo of quarterback Tyler Baker and wide receiver J.B. Moss to put its first points of the season on the board as a 41-yard bomb to Moss put Brook Hill ahead 6-0.

Lake Worth then took the ensuing kickoff on a 76-yard drive, capped off with an Everette Miller five-yard plunge to even the score. Carlos Montalabo then booted the PAT kick true for a 7-6 Bullfrog lead at the 4:08 mark of the opening stanza.

Baker then scored for Brook Hill, returning a Bullfrog punt 79 yards to paydirt. The PAT kick struck the upright, falling short for a 12-7 Guard lead.

The lead was short lived, however, as Bullfrog running back Miller returned the ensuing kickoff to the Guard 49. Just one play later, Christopher Alexander waited on a Montana Chitty bomb at the ten yard line and raced in for the go-ahead score at 13-12.

Lake Worth tacked on to the lead with an 84-yard bomb to Brandon Melendez and the Bullfrog PAT kick was good for a 20-12 lead.

Brook Hill evened up the score before the break as the senior signal-caller Baker connected with Travis Pirtle for a 26-yard gain down to the Lake Worth 16. Two plays later, Baker rambled in from 3-yards away and an A.J. Minter's PAT reception from Baker evened the score 20-20 at the half.

The second half momentum went Brook Hill's way as defensive lineman Tallen Harris made a fumble recovery at the 35 yard line.

A first down pass to Jared Dickey from Baker and a reception by Ross Lee set the Guard up at the Bullfrog 1.

Baker then simply scooted in off the left end untouched for the go-ahead score. Moss converted the PAT kick for a 27-20 Guard advantage.

The Brook Hill defense continued to stiffen as they shutout the Bullfrogs in the third quarter, forcing their second punt of the game. The defensive standoff continued throughout the final period as the Guard defense turned back two fourth-down attempts in the final six minutes for the score to remain 27-20 as time expired.

Baker ran for 125 yards and two scores on 27 carries and was 13 of 17 for 191 yards and another score while adding a punt return for a tally.

Moss made three catches for 49 yards and a score while Jared Dickey hauled in three passes for 23 yards. Dickey also added eight tackles on defense.

Baker, Gunnar Dorsey and Harris all made fumble recoveries to thwart Bullfrog drives in the game and the stout Guard defense turned back four fourth-down attempts by the visitors on the night.
