August 22: Perry Not Willing To Answer Questions
Reportedly, Gov. Rick Perry has made not an appointment with any newspaper's editorial board yet about the upcoming election. And so far, he continues to decline to answer questions from reputable journalists all over Texas about his 25-year career as a politician.
What is Perry afraid to discuss? The voting public would like to know a few things, such as why he has doubled state spending, doubled state debt, and had a hand in creating an $18 billion deficit. And let's not forget his initiation of failed, boondoggle programs like privatization of disability call centers and the Trans-Texas Corridor.
Texans deserve to know the answers to these questions. Before he gets another chance to lead Texas down the rat hole for another term (for a total of 14 years as governor), Rick Perry needs to sit down for some straight talk. If he won't do that, he doesn't deserve your newspaper's endorsement or your readers' votes.
