JOHN S. GILMER JR. NAMED FLOWER'S PRESIDENT
Flowers Bakeries, the super-regional baker of fresh breads, rolls and snack cakes sold under such brands as Nature's Own, has promoted John S. Gilmer Jr. to president of Flowers Baking Co. of Tyler.

Gilmer had served as vice president of sales for Flowers' bakery in Baton Rouge, La. He replaces Bobby Harrison, who has been named president of Flowers' Denton bakery.

As Tyler bakery president, Gilmer oversees manufacturing and sales operations that serve portions of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma with fresh bakery foods sold through retail and foodservice customers.

The Tyler facility is one of seven Flowers bakeries in Texas.

"John has 24 years of baking industry experience, half with Flowers operations," said Brad Alexander, president of Flowers Bakeries.

"We're confident in his ability to effectively lead our Tyler team."

Gilmer's baking career began in 1986. After working for three regional bakers, he joined Flowers in 1998 as director of sales in Memphis, Tenn. Since 2004, he has served as vice president of sales for Flowers bakeries located in Lynchburg, Va., and in Baton Rouge.

WALTERS, BEASLEY EARN DESIGNATIONS
Pamela Walters and Jamie Beasley of The Pamela Walters Group in Tyler have earned the Certified Distressed Property Expert (CDPE) designation, having completed extensive training in foreclosure avoidance with particular emphasis on short sales.

More and more lenders are willing to consider short sales because they are much less costly than foreclosures.

"These experts better understand market conditions than the average agent and can help sellers through the complications of foreclosure avoidance," said Alex Charfen, co-founder and CEO of the Distressed Property Institute in Austin.

"(Ms.) Walters and (Ms.) Beasley have demonstrated a commitment to struggling homeowners, a commitment that can provide much-needed stabilization to the community."
