Fresh-cut Tyler field roses welcomed guests to the "Everything's Coming Up Roses" luncheon, sponsored by Friends of the Rose at Willow Brook Country Club on Wednesday.
Texas Rose Festival Queen Mary-Lawson Bracken Walden, Duchess of the Texas Rose Festival Laura Stacy Ramey, ladies-in-waiting and their mothers were joined by festival volunteers and Friends of the Rose members during the event.
Jill Howard, representing Friends of the Rose, welcomed attendees to the event, and the theme was in keeping with the 77th TRF theme, "A Tapestry of Texas."
An auxiliary of the Texas Rose Research Foundation Inc., Friends of the Rose traditionally sponsored the summer luncheon, and its members look forward to it every year, Ms. Howard said.
The luncheon heralds the start of the summer rehearsal season for members of the queen's court and is a way to honor them and their families, she said.
Festival participants will spend this week practicing in preparation for the Rose Festival, to be held Oct. 14-16 in Tyler.
Mary Cagle asked the blessing for the luncheon, and Bridgette's entertained guests with an informal style show, with Janie Stewart providing piano music throughout the event.
Friends of the Rose sponsors are Chamblee's Rose Nursery, Hand Rose Farms, Hand Wholesale Nurseries, Jernigan Lone Star Realty, Lone Star Rose Nursery Inc., Mea Nursery, Nix Roses, Ran-Pro Farms, Regions Bank, Rose Country Tractor, Roses USA and Tate Rose Nursery.
Individual members include former festival participants, friends and family of those in the rose industry and rose enthusiasts. For more information, call 903-618-9036.
