Man Gets 30 Years For Sexual Assault Of Child
A Houston man was sentenced to 30 years in prison for aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Second Judicial District Court Judge Dwight Phifer found Horacio Gonzalez, 33, guilty of the first-degree felony on May 17, according to a news release that was sent out Monday.

Gonzalez faced five to 99 years or life in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Cherokee County First Assistant District Attorney Rachel Patton, who prosecuted the case, was not immediately available for comment.

Defense Attorney Richard Mayhan, who represented Gonzalez, declined to comment on the outcome of the case.

The charge stems from an incident that occurred in 2008.

Cherokee County District Attorney Elmer Beckworth said the alleged victim was 8 years old at the time.

Another victim's testimony also was used in the case, he said.

Mayhan said his client advised the judge that he was going to file an appeal.
