Smith County Jailer Resigns After Drunken Driving Arrest
A long-time Smith County jailer has tendered her resignation after she was arrested over the weekend for allegedly driving while intoxicated.
Sheriff J.B. Smith said Sgt. Audrey Copeland resigned Monday after her arrest over the weekend by the Tyler Police Department.
Smith pointed out that law enforcement officers are no different from any other resident.
"We must follow and obey the same rules and laws as everyone else," he said.
According to Smith County Jail records, Sgt. Copeland was confined at 3:25 a.m. Sunday and released at 5:07 a.m.
