A teenage girl told Tyler Police an older man propositioned her for sex while she was out walking Sunday morning.

The child's mother told the Tyler Morning Telegraph she is concerned and will be making up fliers with information about the make and model of pickup the man was driving and his description.

“She's fine, but I will definitely be out looking for that truck,” the woman, who is not being identified by the Tyler Morning Telegraph, said.

Tyler Police Public Information Officer Don Martin told the newspaper the incident was reported about noon Sunday in the 3300 block of Timberlane Drive.

“We are investigating an incident in the area and have talked to sex offenders close to the area, but none matched the suspect's description,” he said.

The child's mother said her 16-year-old daughter was out walking through the neighborhood, which is outside Loop 323 near McDonald Road, taking photographs when the incident happened.

“She loves photography, so she was just walking around taking pictures. She had stopped to talk to a younger boy in the neighborhood when the guy pulled up in a 2000 to 2006 white Toyota Tacoma regular cab pickup,” she said.

The mother said the man, described as an older balding man, asked the girl if she needed a ride.

“She said she was fine and he told her he was not. He then kept asking her to get in the truck with him so they could go to his place and have sex,” she said.

She said the boy, who had been talking to her daughter, witnessed the incident and ran and got his father, who called 911. Police responded to the area, but the man had left by the time they arrived.

The woman said her daughter is a little shaken up, but is otherwise fine.

“The detectives told me they are investigating this, and I hope they catch the guy,” the mother said.

Martin said the girl did the right thing in getting away from the man and getting some information, but he stressed it was important for crime victims if at all possible to get a license plate number.

“If we get a license plate then we have a better chance of locating the individual,” he said.

Martin reminded parents to talk to their children about the possibility of such scenarios and how the child should get away from the perpetrator.

Anyone with information about Sunday's incident is urged to contact the Tyler police at 903-531-1000.
