Texas Department of Agriculture Holds Listening Section
A listening session to receive residents' feedback on the Texas Department of Agriculture's nutrition programs is scheduled for 10 a.m. today at the West Erwin Church of Christ Family Life Center.

Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples announced Tuesday that he is seeking input about the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program, Child and Adult Care Food Program and the Commodity Program.

TDA officials say Texas is one of the nation's leaders in food insecurity among children and families.

TDA spokesperson Bryan Black said the Tyler listening session is one of eight across the state.

"We are always looking to improve our programs, so we saw an opportunity for folks in the region to come out and talk to us," Black said. "If we are missing the need, we'll know how to improve our services."

In late 2008, the administration of the federal nutrition programs were consolidated into one state agency to provide taxpayers, program participants and program contractors more consistency and confidence, officials said.
