George Winn, Smith County Republican Club president, said Rove's visit shows the significance of the GOP presence in East Texas and expects "a lot of good will to pass between Rove and those who attend."
Winn encouraged residents to take this "unique opportunity."
Republican Party Chair Ashton Oravetz said it was an honor that Tyler is one of three statewide stops for a conservative with Rove's credentials.
State Rep. Leo Berman said this will be an opportunity for residents to "meet the top guy in the Bush administration." He said Rove did "a substantial job for his boss (Bush) and has taken on celebrity status as a political commentator. Berman said Rove will likely see and meet with people he knows or met during Bush's 1994 and 1998 gubernatorial runs as well as the presidential elections.
"East Texas was a heavily supportive area of his boss," Berman said. "He's going to see a lot of friendly faces here in East Texas."
