ATHENS — A man wanted on multiple felony warrants sits behind bars in the Henderson County Jail today after a lengthy car chase on which he led authorities came to an end after officials used tire spikes to stop the vehicle.
Henderson County Sheriff Ray Nutt said Britt Hambrick, 44, was taken into custody earlier this week after he led multiple agencies on a two-county chase that ended in Kaufman County.
Nutt said detectives David Faught, Darrell Waller and Greg Hill observed Hambrick on Texas Highway 334 in Gun Barrel City on Monday. They knew the man had two felony warrants for narcotics charges, and stopped the car.
“The passenger side doors opened and two females exited the vehicle. Hambrick sped away and left the two females on the side on the road,” Nutt said.
The detectives then chased Hambrick into Seven Points where police officers joined the pursuit which then spilled over into Kaufman County, according to the sheriff.
Nutt said Hambrick then drove onto Texas Highway 175, where several additional police departments assisted Henderson and Kaufman County sheriff’s deputies, along with Seven Points police, in attempting to stop the man.
Kaufman Sheriff deputies were finally able to place tire spikes in Hambrick’s path and deflate his tires.
He was taken into custody and transported back to Henderson County, where he now faces the additional charge of felony evading with a vehicle.
