Wood County Deputy Shannon Love Dies
Family, friends and Wood County officials were mourning the loss of Deputy Shannon Love early Friday at East Texas Medical Center following a year-long battle with cancer.

Love was a sheriff's deputy for four years and employed at the Wood County Sheriff's Department for 10-plus years.

Since April, Love had been treated for Hodgkin's lymphoma and, during that time, the colleagues planned several events and fundraisers -- raising thousands of dollars -- to help with expenses associated with chemotherapy treatments. They pulled together and garnered support from the community for the single father.

He participated in some of the fundraisers, including a motorcycle run, in which he lead the race. Even in the cancer's advanced stage, it did not keep him from living life to the fullest, he said earlier this year.

The Love family requests, that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made at any City National Bank Branch in Quitman, Hawkins, Winnsboro or Sulphur Springs. Wood County officials announced Fri-day that memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Beaty Funeral Home, 5396 South Texas Highway 37 in Mineola.
