Parking Lot Purchase Would Give County Block Ownership

The Smith County Commissioners Court will consider the purchase of a parking lot located at East Locust and East Center streets from Regions Bank during its regular 9 a.m. meeting today.
The purchase would give the county ownership of the city block between Spring and Fannin avenues and Locust and Ferguson streets.
Commissioners Jeff Warr, Terry Phillips, Bill McGinnis and JoAnn Hampton said the purchase makes sense for the county long term.
The court meets inside the Smith County Courthouse Annex Building, 200 E. Ferguson and also will consider:
Filling a Family and Consumer Sciences Agent position;
Awarding contract for health and dental care and Medicare supplement for the county;
Hiring a consultant to negotiate renewal of stop loss insurance with current provider;
Authorizing the county judge to sign final plat for New Haven Estates West, Precinct No. 1;
Right of way easement for bus turn-around on County Road 2221 Fisherman's Drive in Troup;
Action regarding request by the Sheriff's Office to dispose of 1995 Thor Regency motor home;
Action pertaining to entry roadway to Justice of the Peace Precinct 5 building in Lindale;
Hiring temporary intern from Tyler Junior College for the Information and Technology Department;
Resolutions declaring Dec. 13 as First Presbyterian Church of Troup Day; Dec. 15 as Doctor Mitchell L. Rasak Day; to honor Harold C. Beaird for his service to the citizens East Texas;
Action to appoint Jerry Morris and John Ralph Yarbrough to serve on the Emergency Services District No. 1 board;
Receive ESD No. 1 fiscal year audit;
Reappointing Bill Ross and Sam Roosth to Andrews Center Board of Trustees;
Receive update from the Sheriff's Department regarding animal control;
Action pertaining to a request by the Boy Scouts of America - Tyler District to hold their Camporee at Camp Ford, Jan. 15-17.
