Arp Woman Wins Grand Prize In Tyler Paper's NASCAR Contest
DeeAnn Snoddy of Arp is the grand prize winner in the Tyler Paper’s first-ever online NASCAR race results predictions contest, sponsored by the Texas Motor Speedway.

For finishing first overall among the 280 registered contestants, Ms. Snoddy wins two 2010 season tickets for events at the Texas Motor Speedway, combined value of more than $1,000.

“My family and I are extremely excited about this,” Ms. Snoddy wrote in an e-mail. “I didn't really follow NASCAR until I met my fiance, Brett Scott. He is your contest’s 15th-place finisher. He's the reason I'm truly hooked now -- especially since he took me to my first race at Texas Motor Speedway in April 2009.

“A lot of people think that watching a bunch of cars going around in circles is boring,” she wrote. “I used to be one of them. But there is MUCH more to it than that. It takes a lot of skill, patience and determination to be a driver. It's that skill and determination that make it an exciting sport to watch. That's the reason I enjoy it.”

Ms. Snoddy was asked what method she used to pick the racers who would finish in the top 10 each week so successfully.

“When I chose my picks, I (didn’t) really have a 'set' picking order,” she wrote. “I know who the better drivers are and I know who the good drivers are, so I start with the better ones like Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart, Mark Martin, Kyle and Kurt Busch, then throw in some good ones (David Reutimann, Matt Kenseth, Kasey Kayne, Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle, Juan Montoya, Ryan Newman, etc.). From there, I just mix it up a little bit and watch and pray that I did well. It worked!”

She added that Stewart is her favorite driver.

“I was really impressed by his determination to start his own racing team. He is an excellent driver and has done really well his first year out. Plus he's REALLY nice to look at, that helps! Mark Martin is a close second.”

Ms. Snoddy has a daughter, Cheyanne, 13, an eighth grader in the Chapel Hill district. Her son, Joel, who lives in California “has blessed me with a grandson, Jake.”

She added that her soon-to-be family includes a stepson, Brandon, 9, two stepdaughters, Kadi, 20, and Mallory, 17, and a stepgrandson, Colt (1 1/2).

Ms. Snoddy enjoys going to Chapel Hill football games, races at any local dirt track, hunting and bowling.

Finishing second through fifth were, respectively, Hillary Jones of Wylie, Larry Blystone of Corpus Christi, Niki Melot of Comanche and Walter Scoggins of Tyler.

During the NASCAR season, each weekly winner won a prize from the Texas Motor Speedway. Snoddy was one of the 37 weekly winners, finish-ing first in week 20 with her picks for the LifeLock.com 400.
