Smith County Extension Education Association Honors Members
Smith County Extension Education Association held its annual Achievement Day on Nov. 3 to celebrate the year of work and dedication to the community, said Smith County Extension Agent in Family Development Patrice L. Dunagin.

"Each year members volunteer in the Arts and Crafts Building at the East Texas State Fair, prepare a brunch for fair orientation, conduct the Chocolate Dessert Contest, assist with Senior Citizens Day at the Fair, donate cookware to new homeowners of Habitat for Humanity, and assist with Walk Across Texas, as well as, many other activities in the county," Ms. Dunagin said.

Members have volunteered 4,396 hours in the past year, which is valued at $89,447.61 The association also, gives a $250 4-H scholarship each year, she said.

  • This year the "Club of the Year" award went to the Lindale Extension Education Club. The club conducted its educational programs and had three educational tours. "Flu, Is it a Pandemic?" was their most successful program of the year. One of their main projects is conducting birthday parties at Colonial Nursing Home.

  • The "Woman of the Year" award went to Mary Copeland of the Lindale Extension Education Club.

  • "Mary has served as secretary for two years, served as delegate at the Spring Conference, attended two state conventions, helps with the nursing home birthday parties and is always willing to help whenever she is needed. She is a new member, but has become very active, very quickly. She is a great asset to her club and association," Ms. Dunagin said.

  • The "Scrapbook of the Year" award went to Wildcat Extension Education Club. The club created a scrapbook showing how "All Roads Lead to Texas Extension Education." Their scrapbook contained pictures and documentation of all their work for the year with the theme of cars and roads throughout.

  • "Members enjoyed the award presentations as well as a delicious meal prepared by their own hands," Ms. Dunagin said. "The EE year begins on Oct. 1, so a new year of hard work, dedication and fun as already begun for them."
