GARLAND -- Quitman's run in the volleyball playoffs came to end on Saturday.
Aubrey outlasted the Lady Bulldogs in five games, 15-25, 25-22, 25-22, 14-25, 15-12, in the Class 2A Region II final at the Garland Special Events Center.
Quitman (37-7) was attempted to make its eighth state tournament in school history, but fell short. It was the Lady Bulldogs' first loss since a loss to Carthage in the White Oak tournament back on Sept. 5.
"It was a great match," said coach Keith Guyon. "We outscored them 106-93, but they won the close games. When we played well, we really played well and dominated."
Abbey Delp led the way 20 kills and 19 digs. Katlyn Taylor added 53 assists and six digs.
Other standouts for Quitman were Kim Johnson (13 kills, 21 digs), Candace Rushing (13 kills, 29 digs), Molli Taylor (12 kills, 21 digs), Lisa Frauenberger (10 digs, one ace) and Destiny Biggs (four kills, five blocks).
"I'm extremely proud of them," Guyon said. "This bunch finished with the second most wins in school history. When you're that close to the state tournament, and you come up short, it's tough, especially for our four seniors.
"But, they're going to look back and realize they had a wonderful year and have nothing to hang their heads about."
