Campus Notepad: Griffin Elementary Groundbreaking Ceremony Slated Wednesday
Tyler ISD celebrates the official groundbreaking for the new Griffin Elementary campus with a ceremony at 4 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of 26th Street and Bois D'Arc. Parents, students and staff are invited to the event.
Bell
Bell Elementary will have its annual holiday food drive this week. Each grade competes to see which class collects the most items. The winning class receives an ice cream sundae party. The food drive is in conjunction with the Rose City Kiwanis and Brookshire's Grocery Company.
The Bella Girls club meets from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the library. Club members are making winter scarves for residents of Colonial Manor Nursing Home. Scarves will be delivered in December.
The club needs fleece material for the service project. Those interested in donating fleece should call the counselor at 903-262-1820.
Birdwell
Birdwell Elementary's Scholastic Book Fair is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday in the fine arts room.
"Muffins for Mom" at Birdwell is from 7 to 7:45 a.m. Tuesday in the cafeteria.
"Donuts for Dad" is 7 to 7:45 a.m. Wednesday in the cafeteria.
The science club meeting at Birdwell is from 3:15 to 3:45 p.m. Thursday in the fine arts room. Clint Hays of the Texas Forest Service will give a presentation.
The PTA Family Sports Day is from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at Birdwell.
Caldwell
Caldwell Elementary presents "Aladdin Jr.," a Disney musical performed by third through fifth graders, at the following times in the Caldwell Auditorium:

Dogan
Dogan Middle School parents may pick up their children's report cards from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday in the cafeteria and library. Parents may also visit with teachers and hear about their child's progress. Refreshments will be served.
Hogg
Hogg Middle School's seventh grade Middle Years Program (MYP) "Pow Wow" is 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rockin' C Ranch.
The students are studying Native American tribes of Texas. During Wednesday's "Pow Wow," a Native American speaker will interact with students and a Native American dancer will perform.
Students will participate in activities such as archery, Native American games, storytelling and art.
Hogg's eighth grade MYP theater students will present the fourth annual, "Make Your Own Radio Show" at 1 p.m. Thursday in Roger's Children Theater.
The students experience what it takes to plan, produce and perform an actual radio show. Students develop the theme, select talent, write scripts, develop a publicity plan and produce the show for an audience.
The show features musical talent from the community. Felicity Enas, guest artist, works with students in order to provide a true theatrical experience.
Hubbard
Hubbard Middle School continues its service projects this week.
The sixth grade is sponsoring the Rainbow Room of Smith County, while seventh grade is sponsoring St. Paul's Foundation and eighth graders are supporting local soldiers. Each grade level is collecting items to donate to the organization they are supporting.
Grade levels will compete in a spirit chain contest to raise money. Funds will pay for postage on the supplies collected for soldiers. The remaining amount will be donated to the organization of the grade level that raised the most money in the contest.
Donations will be accepted through Nov. 30.
John Tyler
John Tyler High School's "Path to Scholarships" workshop is from 7:50 to 8:20 a.m. Monday through Thursday. Students should sign up in the College & Career Center.
Lee
Representatives from the University of Arkansas will talk to Robert E. Lee High School seniors in classrooms and in the career center Monday.
Representatives from Baylor University, LSU, SMU, TCU and the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising will visit with Lee students Tuesday.
Lee's senior panoramic picture is 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in F Lot. The photo is available for purchase Thursday during all lunches. The cost is $25 for a large picture and $35 for a large and two small pictures.
Representatives from Austin College and the University of Mississippi will visit with Lee students Wednesday.
Lee has an eighth-grade parents' meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Fine Arts Center. Graduation requirements and the scheduling process will be discussed.
Cap and gown photos and senior yearbook pictures at Lee will be taken from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the East Cafeteria. Cap and gown pictures must be paid for at the time they are taken. Picture packets are available in the West Cafeteria and in the front office.
College Fair
The Tyler Area College Fair is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Tyler Junior College Ornelas Health and Physical Education Center. Students are encouraged to bring pre-printed labels with their contact information printed on them. This will allow students to peel, stick and move on to the next college booth, allowing for more time with college representatives.
All Saints
The All Saints Episcopal School 5K Pow Wow is Tuesday.
The second Parent Empowerment session for parents of students in 4K, 5K, and Primer is at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Rogers Hall library. The title of the session is "Are Venus and Mars Still Separate?"
Grace
Operation Christmas Child Collection begins Monday at Grace Community High School. Grace is the area drop-off for any Operation Christmas Child boxes, so individuals as well as groups and organizations may drop their filled boxes off in the office.
Dates and hours are: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday; and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 23.
At 7 p.m. Monday, an informational meeting for high school students and parents about "College Admissions, How Financial Aid Works and Scholarships" is in the Grace high school library. The event is open to the public.
Grace High School will host the Festival of Theater on Monday and Tuesday. Drama teams from area schools will compete for two days and individuals as well as schools will earn awards.
Grace fifth-graders will present their "wax museum" from 8 to 9 a.m. Wednesday. Each student will dress as a historical figure, complete with props, and strike a pose as parents and students come to see the museum.
The Grace high school student body will participate in a community service day from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Each group goes to a specific ministry or organization to volunteer. One group will remain at the high school campus and the residences of Breckenridge Village will come to the gym for games and lunch.
A performance of Acts of Grace One-Act play, "The Little Lessons and Misadventures of Punchinello" is at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Burgess Auditorium.
Growing Stick
The Growing Stick's theme this week is "Pilgrims and Indians."
Early Childhood Intervention is Tuesday. The preschool will also make "Friendship Soup" Tuesday. "Tumblebus" is at the school Tuesday afternoon.
"Festival and Feast" is at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, during which they will share the "Friendship Soup" that was made.
"Dance with Me" classes are Thursday afternoon.
St. Gregory
St. Gregory first-graders will visit the planetarium on Friday to see "Dancing Stars."
A school wide study of Artist Paul Cezanne is under way. The student-created Cezanne art gallery will open Friday.
Winona ISD
The Winona ISD Libraries will celebrate the holiday season by participating in a nationwide program called "The Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive" which aims to give 20,000 children new pajamas and books. The program is sponsored by Scholastic Book Club and benefits the Pajama Program (www.pajamaprogram.com), a nonprofit organization which provides more than 100,000 pajamas and books to children in need every year.
Students are asked to bring a new pair of pajamas to school by Dec. 1 to turn in at the libraries. All sizes from infant to adult are needed. Pajamas in children's sizes must be flame retardant and safe.
