Pat Green To Play At Click's Saturday
By MAEGAN MCGOWEN
Feature Writer

Pat Green loves to tell a story with his music, and those stories wound around Texas like the strings wind around his guitar.

The Grammy nominated artist is headed to our neck of the woods to perform at Click's Billiards in Tyler on Nov. 14.

"I've been to Tyler thousands of times have a great aunt that lives there and my good friends the Cavenders, so I'm really excited to get back to town," he said. "We've played the Tyler Cattle Barons Gala, the Oil Palace and a lot of different stuff around the area. I really enjoy East Texas."

He'll be playing music from his new album, "What I'm For," that debuted at number two on Billboard's Country Albums Chart.

"This is our first record with just my band playing on it in long time, so I'm really excited to get to do that," he said. "It's also the first record I've made without being on a big record label, so I'm going independent."

Musical inspiration for the album includes artists like Dave Matthews Band and Bob Snyder, as well country music legend Willie Nelson.

"Some of these guys aren't typically considered country music, but to me they are great songwriters," he said. "And Willie Nelson's freedom excites me all the time. But when it comes to writing, I think it's just walking around the world that I live in and hanging out with my family and my friends and my own perspective."

And his unique perspective plays into his genre of choice- a genre considered to have a little outlaw thrown in the mix.

"I think Texas music is a little bit more brash and bold, and the coolest thing about people who make Texas country is that they make whatever music they want to make," he said. "It's got an, 'It's my music, what I wanted to make' kind of bravado, and I would definitely consider my music Texas country.
