Cross Country Region II Meet
Pittsburg's Annibal Perez qualified for state in the boys' race and Canton's Heather Sterling nearly won the girls' race, both qualifying for the state meet later this month.
Area runners competed Saturday at the Region II cross country meet at Vandergriff Park in Arlington.
John Tyler senior Shane Floyd, who won the District 11-5A meet, found things a little more difficult at regionals. Floyd finished with a time of 17 minutes and seven seconds, which was good enough for 96th place. Parker Stinson of Cedar Park won the boys' race, posting a whirlwind time of 14:43.11.
The Lee boys finished 23rd out of 24 teams with junior Jack Simmons the first Red Raider to cross the finish line in 129th place in a time of 18 minutes, 13 seconds. The remaining Lee runners and their times were Josh Pittman (18:22.56), Sam Jameson (18:57.87), Carter D'Anna (18:59.21), Austin Doke (19:10.16), Nathan Leary (19:24.99) and William Finley (20:42.76).
The Lee girls team was 21st out of 23 teams with Chantel Jones the first Lady Raider to cross the line, finishing in a time of 13:11.13. The remaining Lee finishers were: Alex Lipscomb (13:38.32), Melissa Menard (13:50.83), Lindsey Halbrook (13:59.81), Laura Ludovico (14:18.69), Suna Burghul (14:43.29) and Noemi Bravo (14:59.28).
Sarah Andrews of The Woodlands College Park won the race in a time of 10 minutes, 54 seconds.
Class 4A
Whitehouse's Adam Lindenmuth was the top area finisher in 17:01.61, good enough for 30th place. Whitehouse as a team was 17th as runners Troy Hayden (17:02.05), Jacob Ziegler (18:26.60), Ricardo Medina (18:56.20) and Spensor Wright (21:31.38) competing.
Whitehouse's Adam Lindenmuth was the top area finisher in 17:01.61, good enough for 30th place. Whitehouse as a team was 17th as runners Troy Hayden (17:02.05), Jacob Ziegler (18:26.60), Ricardo Medina (18:56.20) and Spensor Wright (21:31.38) competing.
The Jacksonville boys team finished in 22nd place. Runners were: Jonathan Frausto (18:14.49), Thomas Alberts (18:42.98), Liandro Tavera (18:49.90), Luis Botello (18:51.41), Edgar Huerta (19:26.25), Ben Casey (19:26.97) and Kevin Quiroz (22:27.45).
Lindale's Alan Arroyo, who won the District 14-4A meet, finished 36th with a time of 17:12.05. Teammate Matthew Cecotti finished in a time of 17:51.15.
Tyler Chappell of Cleburne won the boys race with a blistering time of 15:22.
In the girls' race Whitehouse's Kate Mohr finished 20th overall with a time of 12:36.50. The Lady Cats won the District 14-4A meet, but did not dress enough runners to qualify their team at regionals. Also competing for Whitehouse were Anna Hayden (13:19.94) and Claudia Camargo (15:58.06).
As a team, Lindale finished 16th out of 21 teams, led by Merissa Hums, who was 80th individually in a time of 14:00.19. The remaining Lady Eagles times were: Katherine Trevarrow (14:12.49), Jenny Cecotti (14:28.78), Joshlyn Harp (14:32.48), Lauren Bailey (15:01.85) and Hannah Brown (15:77.15).
Class 3A
Pittsburg's Perez took ninth in the boys race, thanks to a time of 16:27.98, finishing almost a minute behind race winner Jake Roberts of Argyle (15:35.64).

Canton's Ethan Fields finished the race in a time of 17:00.47, which was good enough for 17th place overall. His efforts, along with teammates gave Canton a sixth-place overall finish. Other Eagle runners included Cody Brown (17:08.42), Taylor Free (17:39.61), Tyler Yarbrough (17:48.81) and Eric Vogt (17:57.97).
Edgar Villegas of Pittsburg finished 38th with a time of 17:38.77.
In the girls' race, Sterling posted a blistering time of 12 minutes and five seconds, finishing 17 seconds behind regional champion Colbea Harris of Argyle. Sterling's teammate, TeamRaina Gann were 29th in a time of 13:12.36.
