Longview Fire Chief Removed From Post
LONGVIEW -- City Manager David Willard has relieved Longview Fire Chief Michael Pitt of his duties and plans to recommend the City Council to terminate the chief, according to information released Friday.
Willard placed Pitt on administrative leave with pay. "It is now my recommendation for council to consider termination," Willard said, adding that he plans to place the matter on the agenda for the council to discuss in executive (closed) session on Thursday.
Willard said his action came after "much consideration and numerous meetings with city staff."
Willard added, "This is a very difficult decision and one that I do with great contemplation. It should be noted this is not the result of any single incident. I have concerns about leadership within the department affecting employee morale and impacting the department's service to the community."
The city manager declined to comment further. The fire chief could not be reached for comment.
