Betty Marie Earnest Danielson
A memorial service for Betty Marie Earnest Danielson, 65, will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at 2:30 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church in Tyler with the Rev. David Luckenbach officiating under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home. Betty passed away on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at her farm in Flint.

Betty was born in Shawnee, Okla., on Nov. 14, 1943. Her mother Elizabeth Rowland and father Carl Franklin Earnest were natives of Shawnee, and were married there in 1929. Betty’s grandfather, Franklin Earnest, was Shawnee’s first chief of police, while her maternal grandfather, T.D. Rowland, M.D., was among the first doctors to practice in Shawnee after the 1907 land run. Betty’s father Carl, along with his brothers, owned the Earnest Brothers Shoe stores across Oklahoma. Carl died when Betty was 8, and in the next year she was given her first horse. It was then that a lifelong love affair with horses began.

After graduating from Shawnee High School in 1961, Betty earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and was a sister in the Pi Beta Phi sorority. It was there that Betty met Guy Otis Danielson III on a blind date before the Sooner football game, at the north entrance of Memorial Stadium.

Betty and Guy were married on Dec. 26, 1965, in Shawnee. Guy completed his medi-cal training in Oklahoma City in 1974, and their family moved to Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines, serving in the U.S. Air Force until 1976. At that time, they felt fortunate to move to Tyler with their dear friends, Sandra and Mark Greenberg, and began a practice of neurosurgery.

Betty was a cowgirl at heart, so naturally she and Guy established Tailwind Farm in 1979 where, with grace, hard work and plenty of laughs, she raised her family, some good dogs, horses and cows. Betty and Guy also found themselves surrounded by loving and delightful people who have become lifelong friends. They enjoyed being active members of many organizations and clubs around Tyler. Betty served her community by devoting her efforts to PATH, CASA, Hospice, various Christ Episcopal Church committees, the Junior League, TMA and others. Betty and Guy were married for 44 years. They have three adult children and six grandchildren: daughter Mary Elizabeth is married to Corey Harbold, and they have three daughters: Sophie, Ella Bea and Winifred; son David is married to Margaret Boggess, and they have two children: Flora and Otis; daughter Carley Cathleen is married to Johnny Seale, and they have a son, John Beck. Betty was preceded in death by her mother, father and brothers, Carl Richard and James Rowland Earnest.

Betty was a seasoned traveler, a collector of whimsies, and generously mindful of those in need. Her enthusiasm for life and pure compassion for spreading joy was evident to any person or animal that crossed her path. Betty loved cooperating with nature to create beauty and make things work well. Her full life included lots of fun and good times with friends, especially her best friend, Guy. Their children and grandchildren were her greatest joy.
