Queen's Tea Today At Rose Garden
The public is invited to meet Rose Queen Emily Anne Austin and her court in their full coronation costumes during The Queen’s Tea, to be held from 3 to 5 p.m. today at the Tyler Rose Garden, 420 Rose Park Drive, Tyler.
The Queen’s Tea is an annual event that is open to the public, free of charge, hosted by the family of the queen, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Austin III and Holly McIntire Austin, and the Texas Rose Festival, represented by Mr. and Mrs. Brad Brookshire, in honor of Queen Emily and her court.
The tea is set for Thursday, rather than the usual Friday, due to the condensed Texas Rose Festival schedule, Texas Rose Festival Association Executive Director Julie Ischy said.
For the first time, several Rose Festival out-of-town duchesses will be on hand in full costume and available to meet the public during the tea. These duchesses will be seated at the Rose Show display, inside the Rose Garden Building, Ms. Ischy said.
Second grade student volunteers from the Smith County area will serve as junior hostesses. Food will be prepared by Brookshire Grocery Co.
Committee chairmen are Susan Davis and Debbie Roosth. Committee members include Karen Wallace, refreshments coordinator; Virginia Young and Resa Clarke, junior hostesses; Gillian Brasfield, media; Lucy Carr, Mary K. Peltier and Kelley Uzzell, nametags; Betty Swann, Brooke Swann, Tamra Pierce and Amy Egaņa, pavilion monitors; Leanne Loggins and Toni Hibbs, queen’s guards; Sunni Brookshire, Kelly Eltife and Virginia Beall, punch servers; Maggie Hall, Christi Kennedy, Leanne Barlow and Wendy Fulgham, table monitors; Susan Hightower and Peggy Brelsford, tea waiters.

WHAT TO SEE
The Queen’s Tent is square with a purple-and-white stripe top. Top posts are covered with a crown-and-shield motif, flagging and a crown. Purple draping is tied back by metal roses. Queen’s tent flooring is black-and-white check, and she will be seated in a wrought iron bench with colorful cushions. Flanking the queen will be two pedestal urn arrangements with long-stemmed roses in the shades of pink, lavender and purple. Each arrangement also has a shield and crown emblem, organizers said.
The Attendants’ Tents are square with a purple-and-white stripe top. Purple draping is tied back by metal roses. Top post has a shield-and-cross motif with a flag on top, as well. Black-and-white check flooring will match the queen’s tent and wrought iron seating will be used again with color cushions.
Duchess of the Rose Growers’ Tent is square with a purple-and-white stripe top. Purple draping is tied back by metal roses. Top post has a shield-and-cross motif with a flag on top. Callie Elaine Worthen will be seated on a black seat with two pedestal arrangements flanking her.
Ladies-in-waiting: There will be six tents for the ladies-in-waiting, and all of them have white tops. The posts have a cross-and-shield motif with flags to match the other tents. They also have black-and-white check flooring with black seats, purple draping with metal rose tie backs.
Food Stations will be located in the center of the garden refreshment area and include five cookie and punch stations with urned rose arrangements with cross-and-shield emblems.
