Tablescapes On View At Center
The Tyler Area Council of Garden Clubs, which represents 21 member garden clubs, will be part of the 2009 Texas Rose Festival, beginning today and continuing through Saturday at the Tyler Rose Garden Center, 420 Rose Park Drive, Tyler.
This year's theme is "Fantasy Celebrations," Seven garden clubs will exhibit eight tablescapes with ideas of fantasy dining experiences.
The garden clubs who are participating in the tablescapes are: Azalea Garden Club presenting "Mad Hatter's Tea Party" and "Lunch at the Eiffel Tower;" Green Acres Garden Club, "Dinner in Venice After the Masked Ball;" Gertrude Windsor Garden Club, "Woodland Luncheon;" Jacksonville Garden Club, "Tomatoes Everywhere;" District III Judges Council, "Dinner at the North Pole with Santa;" Mount Pleasant Garden Club, "Lunch With the King at Graceland;" and Tyler Area Council of Garden Clubs, "Mothers Day Luncheon."
Tyler Junior College Horticulture Department also will participate with two tablescapes, making a total of 10 tablescapes to view in the Rose Garden. Admission is free.
The Tyler Area Council of Garden Clubs was organized in 1939 and federated in 1941. TACGC is affiliated with the National Garden Clubs Inc., South Central Region, Texas Garden Clubs Inc. and District III.
Through recent years the Tyler Area Council of Garden Clubs has supported the Texas Rose Festival with important projects such as a standard flower show, and sponsored a float in the Rose Parade. In the 1950s, the Tyler Council joined forces with the Texas Rose Festival Association to underwrite the financing of the Garden Center Building at no cost to the taxpayers and groundbreaking was July 31, 1953.
Every year the Tyler Area Council of Garden Clubs has worked with the Texas Rose Festival on various projects, according to information supplied by the council.
