Three Injured In Accident Near New Summerfield

NEW SUMMERFIELD — A three-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 79 sent three people to area hospitals Wednesday and shut down traffic for at least an hour, officials said.

NEW SUMMERFIELD — A three-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 79 sent three people to area hospitals Wednesday and shut down traffic for at least an hour, officials said.
Lt. Mike Terry with the Jacksonville Fire Department said the accident occurred about a mile west of State Highway 110. He estimated that it happened about 4 p.m.
He did not know details about the cause of the accident, but said it involved a small pickup, Ford Bronco and four-door car.

Two vehicles were in the middle of the highway and one was in a ditch when responders arrived, Terry said.
Three out of the four people involved were transported to the hospital, two to Tyler by helicopter and one by ambulance to East Texas Medical Center-Jacksonville.

Terry did not know the extent of their injuries. However, he said, two of the people had to be extricated with the Jaws of Life.
The New Summerfield Police Department, New Summerfield Volunteer Fire Department, Cherokee County Sheriff's Office and fire departments from Jacksonville and Gallatin were among the responders at the scene.
