Football: Chapel Hill Bulldogs Score 7-0 Victory

QUINLAN -- Although the scoreboard didn't indicate it, the Chapel Hill Bulldogs had a dominate performance on a wet, muddy Hobart Lytal Memorial Stadium Field.

The Bulldogs pulled out a 7-0 victory over the Quinlan Ford Panthers Friday night in a non-district football game.

Chapel Hill appeared to put the game away many times only for a penalty here or there that prevented the clincher. Still, the Bulldogs defense was like a stone wall when the Panthers would get near their end zone.

Running back/quarterback Jordan Williams ran for 122 yards on 27 carries behind an impressive offensive line performance. Also, quarterback Troy Stanley directed the CH attack, including scoring on a nifty 19-yard run in the first quarter.

The Bulldog defense made that TD stand up. There were a couple of key stops including smashing a Panther drive when Colton Moorehead and Holt Henderson sacked Ford QB Kyle Stone on back-to-back plays in the third quarter.

Then just when it appeared Ford RB Colton Scott was headed for paydirt someone in the CH interior line popped the ball loose and Kedray Hollins fell on the football in the end zone with 6:45 to go in the game.

Although he saw some areas to improve, Chapel Hill coach Thomas Sitton was excited about the stellar performance of his Bulldogs.

"We kept shooting ourselves in the foot," said Sitton, whose club improves to 2-2 on the season. "I thought our O-line did a good job. We kept getting first down after first down but penalties were hurting us.

"I was real proud of our defense. In the first half, they played unbelievable. The second half they moved the football on us, but we had a guy step up and make a big play. We are getting better and better each week."

In the third quarter, it appeared Williams had scored on a 27-yard run after shedding a potential tackler on a spin move. But a clip brought the ball back.

After back-to-back road encounters, the Bulldogs get to play at home Friday, when they play host to Athens. Ford (0-3) continues its homestand with a contest against Canton. Both games have 7:30 p.m. kickoffs.
