Duchesses (A-L) Join Texas Rose Festival Court Oct. 8-10

Twenty-two out-of-town duchesses will take part in the coronation of Queen Emily Anne Austin during the 2009 Texas Rose Festival, scheduled for Oct. 8-10 in Tyler. These young women are introduced below as a prelude to the festival:

LORENE SANDERS AGATHER, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Neils Agather, of Dallas, is a sophomore at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, where she is majoring in business and minoring in energy and Spanish. She is a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority and is currently the Panhellenic delegate at TCU.
Miss Agather graduated from The Episcopal School of Dallas, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and vice president of the Student Council. She also participated as captain of varsity cheerleading her junior and senior year, and worked on the yearbook as editor-in-chief during her senior year.
Miss Agather has volunteered at The Gordie Foundation since 2005. She is an active Circle of Trust member and currently works to promote alcohol awareness through The Foundation at Texas Christian University. She also volunteers once a week at the CC Moss School, tutoring children with learning deficiencies. She is a member of Young Guns, a group of young leaders who are dedicated to promoting the spirit of the Cowgirl Hall of Fame, and to preserving the traditions of Fort Worth and the American West.

CLAIRE ANN LEWIS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Michael Lewis, of Dallas, is a sophomore at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va., where she is majoring in English. She is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Miss Lewis was appointed as a representative on the Student Recruitment Committee and serves as a tour guide. She was also selected as a member of the Fancy Dress Committee and assists with the fundraising for the historic event. She attends Reformed University Fellowship and Park Cities Presbyterian Church.
Miss Lewis graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas, where she was editor-in-chief of the nationally acclaimed and award-winning Bagpipe newspaper. Miss Lewis was also elected as a member of the Honor Council, and played on the three-time state runner-up golf team from 2004-2006, lettering on varsity each year. Miss Lewis was also Dallas Country Club Junior Golf Champion for 2003, 2004 and 2006. A National Merit Commended Scholar, Miss Lewis was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Quill and Scroll Journalism Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society. Miss Lewis has volunteered for Interfaith Housing Coalition, Dallas Pregnancy Resource Center and Shattered Dreams.
During the summer, Miss Lewis returned as a counselor to Camp Waldemar, where she was a camper for seven summers. During those summers, Miss Lewis excelled at riflery, canoeing and golf and was elected High Senior Leader of the Aztec tribe.
She was presented earlier in the year representing Dallas as a Duchess in the Admirals Club Coronation Ball in Austin.
