Cardinals Roll By Cisco, 41-14

ATHENS -- Chad Winbush, Josh Johnson and Garrett Beal all produced two touchdowns as the No. 12 Trinity Valley Cardinals soared over Cisco, 41-14, Saturday night in a non-conference game at Bruce Field.

ATHENS -- Chad Winbush, Josh Johnson and Garrett Beal all produced two touchdowns as the No. 12 Trinity Valley Cardinals soared over Cisco, 41-14, Saturday night in a non-conference game at Bruce Field.
TVCC (2-0) seized a 21-0 lead in the first quarter before Cisco (0-2) scored consecutive touchdowns to pull within 21-14 in the second period.
The Cardinals drove for a key score before halftime to make it a two-touchdown difference at the break. A 15-yard facemask penalty on Cisco kept the 59-yard drive alive.
Johnson, an exciting freshman from Richardson Berkner, paced the Cardinal offense with 94 yards on 13 carries. He scored on runs of 1 and 29 yards.
Winbush, a sophomore from DeSoto, rushed for his team's first two touchdowns although he was held in check with 43 yards on eight carries for the game.
The Cardinals alternated quarterbacks for the second week, but it was Beal who generated the most offense. The redshirt freshman from Channelview was 9-of-11 for 144 yards, including touchdown passes of 70 yards to Chris Young and 16 to Jared Pickett. Beal completed his first eight passes.
Cisco standout running back Ketauras Stanton, a sophomore from Diboll, suffered an injury on a fumble on the second Wrangler series of the game and did not return. Replacement Woodrow Turner finished with 103 yards on 22 attempts.
Wranglers quarterback Alijawon White was 13-of-27 for 107 yards.
Both teams are off next week before opening conference play. TVCC entertains Northeastern Oklahoma A&M at 3 p.m. Sept. 19 while Cisco travels to Tyler for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
