Preston Helps John Tyler Sweep Mabank
MABANK -- Monecia Preston produced 32 assists and five kills to lead John Tyler to a 3-0 sweep over Mabank in a non-district volleyball match Tuesday night.

Chelsea Black aided the Lady Lions attack with seven kills and a team-high 13 service points and Jennifer McGowan added six kills and six blocks as JT raised its record to 14-5.

Several other Lady Lions pieced together strong performances in the 25-19, 25-19, 27-25 win: GabriElla Wilson (10 service points, six kills), Shakendra Mumphrey (eight kills, six service points, three digs) Kelvicia Warren (eight service points, six digs), Alexandria Johnson (seven digs) and Ajanay Domena (five kills).

"We practiced on mixing up the attacks and we got some kills off some tips. They did well placing the ball and looking at the court more," JT coach Stephanie March-Smith said. "Jennifer did a good job on blocking and Nay (Domena) did a good job placing the ball where it needed to be to get the kills."

JT split a pair of sub-varsity matches with the JV winning in three games (25-23, 21-25, 25-16) to improve to 7-3 overall, and the freshman falling in three games (25-16, 19-25, 25-19).

The Lady Lions return to action on Friday at Longview.
