Members of the Texas Rose Festival's Ladies' Brunch Committee met at Hollytree Country Club Wednesday morning among perfectly set tables and wide, plate glass windows overlooking the manicured golf course.

The committee is working hard to plan for the upcoming Ladies' Brunch, 10:30 a.m. Oct. 9 at Hollytree Country Club, Tyler.

"We started planning back in March," Treacey Smith, Ladies' Brunch committee chairman, said. "This is our second meeting, and we're here for a tasting."

As they sampled food choices and reveled over delicate desserts and luncheon favors, Ms. Smith expressed her excitement for the event and the guest speaker, First Lady Anita Perry.

"We're thrilled for Anita to come," she said, smiling brightly. "She's the first person we thought of when we were considering speakers. I know she's looking forward to coming!"

Mrs. Perry's speech will reveal tales of grand celebrations at the Texas Governor's Mansion.

Following the devastating fire at the Mansion in June 2008, the First Lady of Texas founded the Texas Governor's Mansion Restoration Fund to restore the 152-year-old Texas Treasure.

"Other entertainment will include the East Texas Men in Harmony," Mrs. Smith said. "We are expecting over 360 ladies at the brunch, and we've anticipated selling out this year."

A new change to the event is that advance tickets are required and must be purchased at the Cowan Center Box office or www.texasrosefestival for $40, she said.

"Also, we are so grateful to our sponsors, and we want to thank Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics for their ongoing support of this Texas Rose Festival tradition," she said.

Chairman for the brunch is Treacey Smith and committee members include Teresa Carney, Jill Cobb, Alexis Combest, Laneesa Cowan, Susan Gibson, Anne Hembree, Norma Smith and Sally Prestwood.
