Arp Tigers Roll In Top 10 Games

ARP -- Second-ranked Arp looked impressive Friday night, thrashing the No. 9 Paul Pewitt Brahmas, 51-7, in a matchup of top 10 teams in Class 2A.

ARP -- Second-ranked Arp looked impressive Friday night, thrashing the No. 9 Paul Pewitt Brahmas, 51-7, in a matchup of top 10 teams in Class 2A.
Arp's Kasey McClendon led all rushers on limited carries, picking up 115 yards on four attempts and scored on two of the four.
Arp's defense dominated the line of scrimmage, penetrating to disrupt the heavy ground attack, holding the Brahmas to only 46 yards of offense in the first half.
Arp started out slow, picking up no yards on its first possession. After a zero net yard Tigers punt, the Brahmas put together a methodical drive before being stopped at the 1-yard line on fourth-and-goal.
Kyle Copeland and the Tigers took over from their own one and drove 99 yards on 14 plays.
Arp's defense forced a Brahmas punt on the next possession, then put together another nice drive capped by Copeland's 4-yard plunge.
Paul Pewitt fumbled the ball back on the first play of its next possession setting up another Tigers touchdown.
This time sensational sophomore McClendon did the honors with his straight-ahead running style darting in from 4 yards out.
McClendon struck again on the next Tigers possession, this time from 50 yards out.
Just before halftime, Copeland threw a pass in the endzone which receiver Andrew Brown went up and pulled away from the defender to put the Tigers up 32-0.
Paul Pewitt put together its most successful drive just in time to ruin the Tiger defensive shutout. Running back Clint Copeland capped the 12-play 82-yard drive on a 1-yard run with 15 seconds remaining.
Arp will entertain San Augustine next Friday while Paul Pewitt will play host to Daingerfield.
