Winona Wildcats Defense Comes To Play In Shutout

WINONA -- The Winona defense pitched a shutout and the offense scored 10 points in 1:39 in the second quarter en route to an 18-0 win over Waskom on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

After a scoreless first quarter, Winona took a 2-0 lead when Ladarius Wheeler tackled Waskom running back Trey Cade in the end zone for a safety.

On the ensuing free kick, Jacob Wheeler returned the football 35 yards to the Waskom 20-yard line.

After a loss of 2 yards, Trent Hodge-Turner dashed 22 yards into the end zone for the TD.

Wheeler made it 10-0 when he ran the conversion into the end zone for two points.

Jacob Wheeler led the Wildcats in rushing with 10 carries for 101 yards and Hodge-Turner added 78 yards.

Cade led Waskom in rushing with 62 yards.

Hodge-Turner added an 8-yard touchdown with 1:25 left in the contest to seal the victory.

Ladarius Wheeler had a fumble recovery and Kendell Moore added an interception.
