McDonald Finishes Second Again
GARLAND -- Katy Jarochowicz of Australia captured the Texas Women's Open golf tournament by one shot over Adrienne McDonald of Gun Barrel City on Thursday.

Jarochowicz finished 1 under for the 36-hole tournament with a 69-70 -- 139 at Eastern Hills Country Club.

"To be mentioned in the same sentence as Babe Zaharias and Polly Riley as a champion is truly amazing," Jarochowicz said. "I still can't believe it. I joked yesterday that if I won I would get a tattoo of the Texas Lone Star on my foot and now that I have actually won I think I'm going to do that."

McDonald finished second at even par (71-69). Her 1-under final round included one eagle and two birdies.

This is the second consecutive year that McDonald has finished as the runner-up. Allyson Ferguson of Houston was the low amateur with rounds of 72-71, totaling a 3-over 143.

Robert E. Lee graduate Kelsey Kipp closed with a 74 to tie for 23rd place in the overall championship. Kipp tied for 10th among amateurs at 8-over 148.

Jarochowicz, in her fifth year as a professional, took home $3,000 in her first pro victory.

The 36-hole stroke play event featured a field of 132 professionals and amateurs.
