Palestine's Shelby Alvarez Voted Most Valuable Player
Palestine's Shelby Alvarez was voted Most Valuable Player on the All-District 35-4A girls soccer team, the league's coaches announced.

Jacksonville's Cynthia Quintana was named Defensive MVP, while Nacogdoches' Carrie West was selected Offensive MVP.

Kaitlin Arrington of Jacksonville was tabbed Sophomore of the Year and Marissa Salazar of Diboll was named Newcomer of the Year.

Edgewood 10, Maypearl 0
Edgewood polished off an area-round series sweep against Maypearl with a 10-0 win Friday night.

Edgewood pitcher Cassidi Henderson fanned 12 in the shutout while also going 3-for-3 at the plate with a single, double and a home run. Jade Garrison and Hannah Chaney drove in three runs apiece in the win.

Edgewood (23-5-1) advances to the regional quarterfinals against Grand Saline. The first pitch is slated for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Canton's Lady Eagle Field.
