Deputies Can't Find Owner of Dogs That Attacked Woman
Smith County Sheriff’s deputies tried today to arrest the owner of pit bull dogs that mauled a woman on March 17 but the man was not located, Sheriff J.B. Smith said.
The department has obtained an arrest warrant for Nolasco Gonzalez, 26, on the charge of attack by a dangerous dog causing serious bodily injury, a third degree felony.
On four occasions, deputies searched for Gonzalez at his residence on County Road 1141, Smith said.
“We were not able to locate anyone there,” he said. “We are concerned that he may have gone back to Mexico.”
Gonzalez is Hispanic and about 5 feet 8 inches and 160 pounds. Anyone who knows of his whereabouts is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office.
On March 17, Kristi Langston, a neighbor, was attacked outside her home by two pit bulls owned by Gonzalez, Smith said.
She received multiple bites to her arms and legs and was hospitalized in serious condition for several days at Mother Frances Hospital.
Smith said Tuesday that her injuries are severe and she likely will face problems caused by the injuries for the rest of her life.
“This is a sad situation,” Smith said. “I feel strongly that he could have prevented this.”
Immediately following the attack, sheriff’s deputies and animal control officers went to Gonzalez’ residence and seized and killed several pit bull dogs.
