Scholastic Achievement

Graduations
  • In December, Laura Jeanette Starling graduated Cum Laude from The University of Texas at Dallas with a Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs.

  • She is the daughter of Pat and Nat Anderson, of Tyler.

  • Approximately 1,200 degrees were awarded by Texas Woman's University during Fall commencement in December. Those from Tyler are: Elizabeth DeLeon -- Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene and Belinda Deal -- PhD in Nursing Science

  • Leslie Weaver, of Flint, graduated from the University of Central Missouri in December with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

  • Tyler students who graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in December are: Alyssa Bell, Bachelor of Science Nursing; Candace Nicole Brooks, Bachelor of Science Nursing; Adalbert O De La Fuente, Master of Science in School Mathematics Teaching; Susan L.   • DeMarcus Walker, of Tyler, achieved a perfect grade point average for the Fall semester at the University of North Texas and was named to the President's List.

  • Mr. Walker is a music education and music performance major. He hopes to earn a PhD in music education. He plays drums, keyboard, piano and bass guitar among his many accomplishments.

    He is the son of Betty and Paul Walker, also of Tyler.

  • Tyler students named to the Dean's List at Stephen F.   • Mika Smith, of Tyler, a senior at Robert E. Lee High School, received both an Academic Scholarship and Odyssey Honors and Distinction Award in Service to the World to attend Hendrix College beginning in the fall of 2009.ΓΆΒ?Β?

  • Smith is the daughter of Roger and Mary Lynn Smith.

  • The United States Achievement Academy announced Nikki Matthews, of Carthage, was named a national honor student award winner.

  • She is the daughter of Twila Matthews and the late Ray Matthews. She is the granddaughter of Gene and Gwen Chandler, of Tyler, and Walter and Frankie Matthews, of Carthage.

  • Cameron Staton, a member of the Robert E. Lee Band will perform with the Texas All-State Band in San Antonio on Saturday at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center as part of the 2008 Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention.

  • He was chosen for this honor through a competitive process held this year across the state at District, Region and Area levels. Cameron is a student of Christie Carlisle and plays at school under the direction of Robert Castillo. This is Cameron's second time to perform as a member of a TMEA All-State organization. Cameron is the son of Evelyn and Hal Staton.

  • Chapel Hill ISD has qualified two students, Jonathan Montalto and Jake Martin, for the 2008-09 University Interscholatic League State Cross-Examination Debate Meet on March 16-20 at the University of Texas at Austin.

  • The students qualified, placing first or second in the district meet held Feb. 11 in Gilmer.
