February 11: Veteran Of ET Alcohol Wars Sounds Off
We just read in the Tyler Paper that the pro-alcohol crowd is trying to bring in liquor to be sold in the grocery stores, filling stations, etc. (in Winona). We were shocked when we read that there was no opposition to this move.

Where are the pastors, church members, and concerned voices and why are they not speaking out?

Over three years ago, we lived in Lindale. This same group tried to bring liquor into Lindale to the restaurants and quick-stop grocery stores. The churches and citizens mobilized. We had signs printed that were in put in most of the yards, we handed out "Vote NO" leaflets to every home, we advertised in the newspapers, we wrote letters to the editor. We were able to defeat this group. They spent nearly $100,000 doing their thing in Lindale and surrounding areas, and we spent $2,000.

They said they are trying to keep the tax money in town, but the truth is it's all about the almighty dollar - money for the alcohol industry.

I know that alcohol is served if you belong to a private club. We can't do anything about that. But being able to buy it in all the stores and seeing it sold everywhere, we can stop that.

I am a pastor who has seen the heartbreak in homes, marriages, and teenage deaths because of alcohol. Please don't allow this vote to be yes. Please do what you know is right.
