Bipolar Chandler Author To Hold Book Signing
Chandler resident Melody Stroud will hold a book signing for her recently published book, "In My Head: Living My Life with Bipolar," from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Barnes and Noble Booksellers, 4916 S. Broadway.
Mrs. Stroud, who has struggled with bipolar disorder for more than 20 years, wrote the book in order to share the most intimate details about her life in which she suffered from intermittent bouts of manic depression.
"People need to know the details," she said. "I want them to know you can live a productive life with this disorder. You can live a fulfilling life."
The 46-year-old mother of three is now managing a life with a disorder that affects more than five million other people in the country.
Now that she has overcome a life of instability, Mrs. Stroud said she is dedicating the rest of her life to educating others about the often misunderstood illness.
She began more than a year ago by starting a support group, where she gathers twice a month with about 10 other people with the disorder at the Andrews Center in Tyler.
She also started a nonprofit called the Bipolar Awareness Foundation to bring awareness and support throughout East Texas.
"In My Head: Living My Life with Bipolar" is also available through the publisher, Xlibris.com under the name Melody Hope and at Barnes and Noble.com. It will soon be available at amazon.com and borders.com, Mrs. Stroud said. Another book signing will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. March 7 at Hastings, 4015 S. Broadway.
