A 69-year-old Tyler man was killed early Monday morning when he drove under a flatbed trailer being backed into a business on Texas Highway 155 south.

According to a Department of Public Safety report, James Carns was traveling southbound on 155 just north of Grande Boulevard when the 2008 GMC pickup he was driving struck a trailer being towed by a 2001 Mack truck about 6:45 a.m.

The report stated the driver of the Mack truck was backing the trailer into a business and was across both lanes of southbound traffic when the accident occurred.

Smith County Justice of the Peace Mitch Shamburger pronounced Carns dead at the scene.
